How did you celebrate Halloween?

How did you celebrate Halloween as a child?  Did you trick-or-treat in the neighborhood?  Did your mother make your costume every year, did you buy one, or create it from odds and ends around the house? What was your favorite costume ever?  Did you carve a pumpkin every year?  Was there a house in your neighborhood that was simply too scary to approach for treats?  Why?  If your parents attended a costume party, what did they dress as?  Did they decorate the outside of the house with skeletons, spiderwebs and scarecrows?  How did your family celebrate Halloween?
